Call for papers for a special issue honoring the life and work of Gary Marsden

Submission deadline: January 20, 2015

ITID is now inviting submissions for a Gedenkschrift memorial issue honoring the life and work of Gary Marsden. Gary Marsden was a full professor of computer science at the University of Cape Town where he directed the ICT4D research center. He passed away suddenly in December of 2013, shortly after chairing a very successful ICTD conference in Cape Town. Gary was a passionate scholar of international acclaim and a dear friend to the ITID community. He is already deeply missed.

We are primarily soliciting research papers on themes relevant to or influenced by Gary's work including the areas of:

  • HCI and international development (HCI4D)
  • Mobile interaction design
  • Computer science education in Africa

Research contributions should be theoretically grounded and methodologically sound and arealso welcome from (and across) diverse disciplinary boundaries including social science, design, and computer science. Contributions are especially welcome from researchers based in developing regions and those involved in crosscontinental collaborations.

In addition, we will consider personal essays honoring Gary's work and impact, particularly from his former students and collaborators. Authors interested in submitting an essay are required to first contact the special issue editors with a short overview.
